Fruit hangups

Melon Head

Melon Head

I actually really hate watermelon … ptooey! ptooey (and that’s not the seeds)! Even just the smell of it makes me feel ill.

I’ve met a couple of people who feel the same way about this dreaded fruit and then there are those friends who fear the banana.

Yep, we all have our own thing — feel free to share yours.

UP, up and away …

May 30, 2009

Very curious to see Pixar‘s new movie, Up (which I believe premiered yesterday) — I’ve enjoyed pretty much all of their other flicks (e.g. Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Wall-E …) so already have a couple of movie coupons reserved for this one!

Anyone else seen it yet and have a review to give?

Write me a letter

May 29, 2009

I recently blogged about how writing/sending letters seems to be a lost art form and something to be really appreciated and celebrated when it happens. If you’re planning on giving letter-writing or card-sending a go and are looking for some unique and fun stationery, check out modernemotive‘s wares in her Etsy shop. Not only does Adele offer personalized and beautifully designed stationery, she also has a range of fun and clever cards for various occasions. One of my favourites is her birth announcement card with its subtle colours and lovely font:

Prepare for awesomeness

May 28, 2009

Just saw Kung Fu Panda and one of my favourite scenes is the fight over the dumplings between Po (Jack Black) and his teacher, Master Shifu (sorry, not the best quality but you get the idea):

Marrying fruit and beer

May 27, 2009

I am not what you would call a true beer drinker. I’m more likely to sneak sips out of friends’ glasses or “split” a drink — yes, I actually tried to share a half pint before with someone (sad, I know).

If anything, I’ve taken a real liking to a few fruit beers out there (yes, I can see some of you true beer drinkers out there just cringing). Favourites include Früli’s strawberry beer and Chapeau Exotic’s pineapple flavour, which I just discovered yesterday.

Now it’s just waiting for the summer weather to hit so that I can enjoy a couple of these on a sunny deck or patio with good eats and company!

Wild art

May 26, 2009

If you’re a fan of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, you are sure to enjoy Terrible Yellow Eyes, an artistic tribute to the author and his beloved children’s book. This blog by Cory Godbey, features beautiful and original artwork by Cory himself and many other artists based on and inspired by the classic childhood tale.

As many of you already know, the movie version is due out this fall — after seeing the trailer, I’m actually looking forward to checking it out!

It’s all about the bull

May 24, 2009

Thought I would check out my horoscope (Taurus) out for today in three different newspapers — amazing how you can easily apply these things to what’s going on in your life if/when you want to.

The Toronto Star: Don’t fuss about something that has recently taken up far too much of your time and energy. It may still not be sorted out, but given a little time, you’ll see a big improvement.

The Globe and Mail: You need to make a living, of course, and you enjoy all the nice things that a healthy bank balance can bring, but don’t put material goals ahead of human contact. The current new moon is as much about relationships as it is about money.

The National Post: Increased responsibilities with children, and a deep desire to discover what you want to be when you grow up, are things you can identify with right now. Nevertheless, you’re moving in a direction of change. Expect to be active and busy in the next few years!

Here kitty, kitty

May 23, 2009

Read a touching story in today’s The Toronto Star about Bungee, a three-week old kitten who fell into a drainpipe but was rescued by animal services control officers in a three-hour rescue operation (phew and yay!). I think Bungee’s expression in the below photo tells it all about her harrowing experience — check out those eyes:

Just part of the gang

May 22, 2009

The String Doll Gang by Kamibashi has been around for awhile now but their membership seems to keep growing. There’s everyone from Medusa to Spartacus, zombies, ninjas, demons, elves, ghosts and witches — they’re all pretty cute — here are a couple of my favourites:
